The Current State of Local Amateur Racing

This is a “gut feeling” post – just my opinion & not at all researched…
…but important, nonetheless!

They (whoever “they” is) say that we’ve been in a recession for at least a year.
I don’t concur!

This weekend marks 6 months that I’ve been involved with the regional South/Central Texas amateur racing community.  I started with a bang, attending the 2008 Southwest Solo Divisional #2 in Pearsall, TX, an SCCA sanctioned regional autocross event, on June 6th-8th, 2008 (I was there on the 8th).

It was grand showing of support & camaraderie for the motorsports community.  Knowing what I know now, I wish I had stayed for longer than the 3 hours I visited & I should have talked to more people.  Interesting how hindsight is always 20-20.

I have been able to attend 11 autocross events & 2 HPDE (high speed driving education) events so far this year.  Working with the SASCA, SPOKES & Harris Hill Road personnel & competitors has been GREAT!  Tomorrow will be the last autocross event, SASCA Autocross #12 of 2008.  I will be there, too.

The attendance & spirit at all these events has been good & consistent.  For awhile there was some grousing about high gas prices, but competitors did not let that get in the way of enjoying their racing.

Competitors who want to race will will always find a way.

Racing Ready, too, will be there & finding a way to progress this blog & the promotion of motorsports forward!
